Hearts in Sonoma: UCSF Update on Heart Failure Therapies 2025 provides up-to-date presentations on the evaluation and treatment of heart failure from initial diagnosis to advanced therapies. This course covers guideline-directed care, remote monitoring, cardiogenic shock management, mechanical circulatory support devices, heart transplantation, novel valvular therapies, genetic cardiomyopathies, cardiac amyloidosis, and management of right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Participants will gain knowledge to integrate treatment advances into a comprehensive, patient-centered heart failure management program.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the latest guideline updates in the treatment and management of heart failure, including optimization of drug therapy, remote monitoring, and novel clinical interventions and clinical trials;
  • Describe current approaches for the management of cardiogenic shock and use of acute mechanical circulatory support devices, highlighting rapid transfer strategies for refractory shock patients;
  • Describe long-term durable LVAD use in advanced heart failure patients, minimally invasive implant techniques, and shared care programs with community cardiologists;
  • Review the latest innovations in heart transplant care, including novel organ acquisition, preservation, dual organ transplantation, and expanded donor criteria;
  • Review management of pulmonary hypertension in advanced heart failure patients;
  • Discuss therapies, new drugs, and strategies for managing cardiac amyloidosis;
  • Understand comprehensive multidisciplinary care and UCSF’s programs linking community physicians for pre- and post-advanced cardiac intervention patient management.
