Harvard Update on Severe Asthma 2026

Gain cutting-edge insights into the assessment and management of severe asthma through this two-day, live, hybrid (in-person and online) course led by the multidisciplinary team from the Severe Asthma Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Mass General Brigham Asthma Center. The course will explore both pediatric and adult asthma, focusing on comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and modern treatment approaches. Day one will focus on the assessment of severe asthma and related comorbidities, while day two will cover treatment strategies, including novel and emerging therapies. Topics include immunology and genetics of severe asthma, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, eosinophilic lung diseases (including allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis), occupational asthma, obesity-related asthma, and pediatric considerations. Additional sessions will discuss gastroesophageal reflux disease, upper airway obstruction, and sinusitis/nasal polyposis — featuring insights from gastroenterology, otolaryngology, and voice specialists. Participants will receive an in-depth review of current GINA and NAEPP Guidelines, the latest biologic therapies, and innovative treatment approaches. Interactive lectures, multidisciplinary case discussions, and live Q&A sessions will ensure participants leave with practical skills to manage complex asthma cases effectively.

* Date of Original Release: March 16–17, 2026

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Systematically evaluate patients with difficult-to-control or severe asthma using structured clinical and diagnostic protocols.
  • Identify and differentiate specific severe asthma phenotypes and endotypes to enable precision-based treatment.
  • Apply current GINA and NAEPP guideline updates and utilize novel biologic therapies in the management of severe asthma.
  • Recognize and manage comorbid conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, sinusitis/nasal polyposis, and obesity-related asthma.
  • Integrate multidisciplinary insights from pulmonology, allergy, otolaryngology, and gastroenterology into individualized asthma care plans.
  • Engage in case-based discussions and expert-led sessions to enhance decision-making in severe asthma management.
